WoW Midnight — Mining & Engineering Raider’s Guide
A raider’s guide to Mining and Engineering in WoW Midnight: farming all three ore types and Dazzling Thorium, leveling both professions efficiently, spending Knowledge Points correctly, and crafting gadgets, profession tools, goggles, and the expansion’s only player-crafted battle resurrection.
Overview
Mining and Engineering are a utility-first pairing built on ore and ingenuity. Mining provides the raw materials Engineering consumes to produce gadgets, goggles, profession tools for every other crafter in the game, and — uniquely — the only player-crafted battle resurrection available in Midnight. Engineering is the most versatile crafting profession in the expansion: it supplies tools to more professions than any other crafter, produces gear for every armor type, and accesses recipes through a Discovery system that rewards active engagement rather than passive investment.
This guide is written for a raider starting from zero in Midnight. Midnight uses only two quality tiers — Silver and Gold (Bronze is gone). Gold quality is the target; Silver is always better than nothing while you build KP.
Part I — Mining

What Changed in Midnight
- Only two material quality tiers: Silver and Gold (Bronze removed)
- Refining removed from specializations — ore feeds crafting directly
- New currency: Artisan Miner's Moxie — spend on Knowledge Point items from the profession vendor
- 40 KP in Meticulous Mining unlocks mounted mining — invest here immediately

Dazzling Thorium drops as a rare bonus from any mining node. It is required for high-end Engineering recipes — Turbo-Junker tools, advanced goggles, Aetherlume gear. Mine every node you pass; Dazzling Thorium accumulates from volume, not targeted farming.

Motes from themed nodes are broadly consumed reagents across all crafting professions. Engineering uses Aetherlume in particular — a crafted reagent that requires Mote inputs.
Leveling
Mine every node while questing. Mining levels naturally from volume.
- Mine all three ore types across zones for first-mine KP bonuses
- Prioritise Seam nodes over standard nodes for yield
- Invest 40 KP in Meticulous Mining for mounted mining as early as possible

- Meticulous Mining to 40 — mounted mining first.
- Plentiful Ores — Dazzling Thorium improvements directly impact Engineering's high-end output.

As an Engineer-Miner, you craft your own Rock Satchel and Hardhat immediately. The pickaxe requires a Blacksmith — find a crafter or check the Auction House for the Thalassian Pickaxe early.

What Engineering Produces
Engineering is uniquely broad — it produces useful items for every player regardless of class or role:

The battle resurrection items (B0P, M3DDY) are the most strategically valuable things Engineering produces. In a raid without a Druid, Evoker, or similar, your crafted battle rez can be the difference between a wipe recovery and a reset.
The Discovery System
Engineering in Midnight uses a Recycling-based Discovery system for a significant portion of its recipes. Recycle unwanted crafted reagents at the Recycling device to discover new recipes — including housing décor, battle resurrection items, and rare gadgets.
Discovery is not random. Recycling produces outputs based on what you put in. Track which recipes you need and feed the system accordingly.
The following recipe categories are discovery-only — they are not trained or vendor-purchased:
- Battle resurrection devices (B0P, M3DDY variants)
- Most Housing Décor items
- Several high-demand optional reagents and gadgets
Invest in Recycling (90 KP) early enough to start the discovery chain. Many of Engineering's most unique and valuable products are locked behind it.

Engineering has four specialization trees requiring 570 total KP to fully max.

Spend order for raiders (utility + battle rez focus):
- Recycling — unlocks the Discovery system chain. You need to start recycling early to discover battle resurrection recipes and other high-value items. This is the smallest tree and has outsized impact on what's available to you.
- Bits and Bots — specifically for battle resurrection recipe access and cogwheel production. The second-smallest tree; invest here alongside Recycling.
- Market Mobility — profession tools for other crafters are in constant demand. Junker's Multitool (Fishing), Sin'dorei Snippers (Tailoring), Sin'dorei Clampers (Jewelcrafting) — these sell throughout the expansion.
- Combat Analytics — goggles and bracers for personal use or sale. Largest single value-add for gear crafting.

- Market Mobility — hit this first for tool demand and service income.
- Recycling + Bits and Bots — for battle rez and unique items.
- Combat Analytics — once tools are handled.

Tool enchant: Apply Enchant Tool — Ren'dorei Ingenuity for concentration-based quality crafting, or Enchant Tool — Haranir Multicrafting for volume production runs.
How They Work Together
- Ore directly feeds Engineering components — Song Gear, Soul Sprocket, and all weapon and armor recipes draw from the ores you mine. Refulgent Copper feeds early components; Brilliant Silver and Umbral Tin feed mid and high-tier gadgets and gear.
- Dazzling Thorium unlocks your best recipes — Turbo-Junker tools, advanced goggles, and Aetherlume gear require Dazzling Thorium. Mine every node; volume is the only way to build this stock.
- Engineering self-crafts its own Mining bags and hardhats — Farstrider Rock Satchel and Farstrider Hardhat are crafted at skill 1. You are immediately tool-independent for your Mining accessories.
- Aetherlume requires Motes — Aetherlume is a crafting reagent used in several Engineering recipes. It is produced using Motes gathered from themed Mining nodes. Over-LODED investment in Mining improves your Aetherlume supply.
- The battle rez is a raid utility that only you have — unless your raid has a dedicated spec with a built-in battle rez, your B0P or M3DDY can be the most impactful item you bring to progression nights. This is not a gold-making item; it is a raid contribution that only Engineering can provide.

- Mine themed nodes for Mote supply (Aetherlume production)
- Check Artisan Miner's Moxie vendor for Knowledge book availability
Engineering:

- Run Recycling to progress Discovery chain
- Craft profession tools for sell orders (Sin'dorei Snippers, Clampers, Hardhats)
- Check battle resurrection item cooldown (if applicable)
- Craft cogwheels for personal use or Auction House
Two-Week Plan
Week 1 — Foundation
Days 1–3: Level both professions while questing. Mine every node and feed ore into Engineering trainer recipes. Craft your Farstrider Rock Satchel and Hardhat immediately. Invest first KP into Meticulous Mining (40-point mounted node) and Recycling (start the Discovery chain).
Days 4–7: Push to skill 67 in Engineering via trainer recipes. Complete both weekly quests. Begin running Recycling to discover early recipes. Invest additional KP into Bits and Bots to open the battle resurrection recipe path.
Week 2 — Raid Ready
Days 8–10: Reach skill 100 in both professions. With Recycling and Bits and Bots developing, you are progressing toward the battle resurrection discovery. Begin producing Sin'dorei profession tools for sell orders.
Days 11–14: With Market Mobility investment, you're producing tools for Tailoring, Fishing, Jewelcrafting, and Mining simultaneously — consistent weekly income. If the battle rez discovery has unlocked, you are contributing a unique utility to your raid that no other profession provides.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Start Recycling immediately — the discovery chain requires cumulative recycling over time. Recipes like battle resurrection and housing décor are locked behind significant recycling progress. Every week you delay starting is a week of discovery progress lost.
- Engineer self-supplies its own Mining accessories — Farstrider Rock Satchel and Hardhat are skill 1 crafts. There is zero reason to buy these from the Auction House.
- The battle rez requires early investment in Bits and Bots — it is a discovery-only recipe behind the Bits and Bots tree. If this is a goal, invest there alongside Recycling in the first week. Don't assume it becomes available naturally without targeted KP spending.
- Dazzling Thorium cannot be farmed directly — it procs from any node. The only lever you have on Dazzling Thorium supply is total mining volume and Plentiful Ores KP investment. Farm consistently; stockpile before crafting high-tier recipes.
- Tool demand from other professions never stops — Tailors need Snippers, Jewelers need Clampers, Fishers need Rods, Miners need Hardhats. These are consumable tools that players replace over the expansion. A stock of profession tools from Engineering sells reliably throughout the tier with zero competition from other sources.
- Cogwheels are optional reagents slotted into Engineering gear — they aren't just crafting components. Carry them and slot them into your own goggles and bracers for stat customisation. Perfected, Flux, Greased, and Consistent Cogwheels each serve different purposes; check which secondary stat you need before slotting.
