World of Warcraft: Midnight — Heroic Raider’s Profession Manual
Herbalism &
Inscription
Catch-Up Guide from Zero · Season 1 Raid-Ready in Two Weeks
A Warlock new to the group, starting fresh in Midnight. No prior skill. Full Knowledge Point roadmap to craft Gold-quality Vantus Runes and Missives for your Heroic progression team — without depending on anyone else.
Part I — Herbalism
Skill 1–100 · Knowledge Priorities · Mote Farming
Your trainer is Botanist Nathera in Silvermoon City’s Bazaar (~48.2, 51.5). Learn the profession first, then head directly to Eversong Woods. Every Midnight herb spawns in every zone — no zone-locking like in The War Within.
The Five Base Herbs
| Herb | Rarity | Location Note | Inscription Use | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tranquility Bloom | Very Common | All zones | Powder Pigment → both inks (highest volume) | Critical |
| Argentleaf | Common | All zones | Argentleaf Pigment → Sienna Ink | High |
| Azeroot | Common | All zones | Used directly in weapons, Codified Azeroot | High |
| Mana Lily | Uncommon | Near or in water | Mana Lily Pigment → both inks | High |
| Sanguithorn | Uncommon | All zones | Sanguithorn Pigment → Munsell Ink | High |
| Nocturnal Lotus | Rare side proc — all node types | High Perception increases yield | Epic profession gear recipes | Bonus |
Leveling Phases: 1–100
Skill brackets work in three distinct phases. The key surprise: base herbs go gray at 60 — you must hunt modified nodes for the final 40 points.
-
Skill 1–30
Every herb gives skill. Tranquility Bloom goes gray at 30. Any zone works — stay in Eversong Woods for its smooth loop terrain.
-
Skill 30–60
Mana Lily, Argentleaf, Azeroot, and Sanguithorn carry you. These are yellow at 30, gray at 60. Keep looping Eversong.
-
Skill 60–100
Only Lush and Infused (modified) node variants give skill. Base herbs are all gray. Sweep all four zones hunting glowing modified nodes specifically. Expect 30–45 minutes for this phase.
Knowledge Point Priorities
As a Warlock, you cannot mounted-gather without investing KP. This is your most time-critical unlock.
-
Phase 1 · 40 KP
Botany root node to 40 points. First Priority
The Sky Golem does not enable mounted herbalism in Midnight zones. Without 40 KP in Botany, you dismount for every single herb. This alone doubles your farming speed. -
Phase 2 · 40 KP
Bountiful Harvests to 40 points. Increases minimum and maximum yield by +1 per gather. More herbs per node = more pigment per hour.
-
Phase 3 · Sub-specs
Herb sub-specializations within Bountiful Harvests, in this order: Tranquility Bloom → Sanguithorn → Mana Lily → Argentleaf. At 20 points each, you unlock a ~15–20% Finesse proc for bonus herbs.
-
Phase 4 · Motes
Midnight Overload tree. Unlock the root for free (passive cooldown reduction activates). Then invest: Voidbound first (Mote of Pure Void for Missives), Wild second (Mote of Wild Magic for Treatises).
Infused Nodes & Mote Farming
Each zone has modified herb nodes that drop unique motes — essential Inscription reagents, not optional. You also gain the Overload Infused Herb ability automatically upon first gathering an infused node.
| Node Type | Zone | Mote Dropped | Inscription Use | Mechanic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voidbound | All zones (dangerous areas) | Mote of Pure Void | Missives, Soul Ciphers Priority 1 | Hazardous void circles spawn — avoid or move through quickly |
| Wild | Zul’Aman | Mote of Wild Magic | Treatises Priority 2 | 4 hostile Lashers spawn — herb their corpses |
| Lightfused | Eversong Woods | Mote of Light | Soul Ciphers | Dodge falling mote circles; standing in light circles grants bonus motes |
| Primal | Harandar | Mote of Primal Energy | Codified Azeroot | Health-channeling mechanic during gather (Warlock: use Demonic Circle) |
| Lush | All zones | — | Higher base yield, no special mechanic | No interaction required |
| Transplanted | Voidstorm only | — | Minimal rewards | Weakest variant — lowest priority |
Week 1 Knowledge Budget
World Treasure Waypoints (use /way with TomTom)
⚠ The two “Harvester’s Sickle” treasures share a quest ID — looting one despawns the other. Collect all other treasures first, then grab whichever Sickle you find first.
Part II — Inscription
Skill 1–100 · Knowledge Priorities · Vantus Runes · Weekly Routine
Two trainers: Zantasia in Silvermoon City’s Bazaar (~46.9, 51.6) and Rhys Duskfrost in Harandar (~53.2, 55.6) — use whichever is convenient once you’re in the later zones. Inscription is widely considered the easiest crafting profession to max in Midnight — the final ~60 skill points come almost entirely from Treatise spam. The hard part is the Knowledge Point grind toward guaranteed Gold quality.
Total Materials for 1–100
Farm or buy everything below before you start crafting. Milling in batches is far faster than milling on demand.
Step-by-Step Leveling Route
-
Skill 1–20
Mill everything. Use Midnight Milling on all 640 herbs. Herb quality doesn’t affect pigment quantity. This produces Powder, Argentleaf, Mana Lily, and Sanguithorn Pigments.
-
Skill 20–30
Craft inks. Make 11× Munsell Ink and 12× Sienna Ink. Each requires Thalassian Songwater plus three pigment types.
-
At Skill 25
Unlock Calm Hands immediately. Spend your first 10 KP filling this root node. It doubles your weekly Treatise KP from 1 to 2 — every week, for the rest of the expansion. Do this before anything else.
-
Skill 30–42
First-craft bonus blitz. Craft one of each recipe for the first-craft KP bonus: 1× Faunatender’s Baton, 1× Floratender’s Crutch, 1× Rootwarden’s Lamp, 1× Soul Cipher, 1× Codified Azeroot, 1× Faunatender’s Trust (bow), 1× Hobbyist Scribe’s Quill (equip this immediately), and one of each of the 4 Missive types. Craft the Blueprints → Field Research → Staves spec node to unlock Patron Order weapon crafts.
-
Skill 42–100
Treatise spam. Thalassian Treatise on Inscription gives skill all the way to 100 (yellow → 80, green → 90, gray at 95). Each costs 1 Vellum + 1 Mote of Wild Magic + 1 Munsell Ink + 1 Sienna Ink. Expect ~70 total Treatises. As you craft, randomly discovered Treatise recipes for other professions trigger first-craft bonuses — always craft them once.
-
Shortcut: 90–100
If Treatises go gray before 100, complete weapon crafting orders (3 skill points each). Three weapon crafts from 91 finishes the job.
Knowledge Tree Roadmap — Heroic Raiding Priority
Inscription has four specialization trees, unlocked at skill 25, 50, 60, and 75. Fully maxing all four costs 870 KP total — 270 Blueprints, 70 Calm Hands, 270 Perfected Products, 260 Darkmoon Curiosity. The optimal investment order for a Heroic raiding support player: Missives first, Vantus Runes second.
-
Phase 1 · 10 KP
Calm Hands root node to 10/10. Unlocks Dextrous Diligence (Multicraft), Keen Eye (Resourcefulness), and Calculated Precision sub-specs. Doubles weekly Treatise KP to 2. Always first.
-
Phase 2 · 5 KP
Blueprints → Field Research → Staves to 5. Unlocks the staff recipe required for Patron Crafting Orders. Without a weapon recipe, you’re locked out of a major weekly KP source.
-
Phase 3 · 90 KP
Perfected Products (30) → Parchment (30) → Perfect Missives (30). This chain enables guaranteed Gold-quality Missives without spending Concentration. All 13 Thalassian Missive types benefit. This serves the most players in your raid group per craft.
-
Phase 4 · 30 KP
Perfect Vantus Runes (30). Once Parchment is at 30, you only need 30 more points here for Gold-quality Vantus Runes. Your Missive investment directly feeds this — no wasted KP.
-
Phase 5 · 30+ KP
Perfect Contracts, then Calm Hands sub-specs. Contracts (one per warband per week) are limited-demand but useful for personal rep gains. Then fill Dextrous Diligence and Keen Eye for ongoing crafting efficiency.
When Can You Craft Gold-Quality Vantus Runes?
The Vantus Rune: Radiant recipe unlocks from the trainer at skill 50. Materials: 2× Petrified Root + 1× Soul Cipher. Straightforward — but quality depends on your KP investment.
| Timeframe | What You Can Do | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Skill 50 (Day 2–3) | Craft Vantus Runes — Silver quality by default | Materials only |
| Any time (early weeks) | Craft Gold Vantus Runes by spending Concentration | Concentration (limited) |
| ~Week 4–5 (Missives-first path) | Craft Gold Vantus Runes passively, no Concentration needed | ~90 total KP in Perfected Products chain |
| ~Week 3 (Vantus-first path) | Gold Vantus sooner, but Gold Missives delayed | Sacrifice Missive quality |
Darkmoon Decks — Skip Early
Revisit in Season 2 once class guides confirm specific sigils as BiS embellishments.
New in Midnight — Inscription
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Bow crafting | Inscription can now craft Aln’hara Sprigshot for Hunters. Unlock via Blueprints → Field Research → Archery (15 KP). |
| Craftable Darkmoon Cards | Cards are now craftable via Inscribe recipes + Transcribe for suit swaps. Cards also drop from world content. |
| Epic profession tools | Three tiers: Green (trainer) → Rare (Blueprints spec) → Epic (150 Artisan Scribe’s Moxie from vendor Lelorian). Equip Hobbyist Scribe’s Quill immediately on crafting. |
| Housing décor | New market: Harandar Signpost, Magnificent Towering Bookcase, Floating Void-Touched Tome. Recipes from Renown vendors at Rank 5. |
| Artisan Scribe’s Moxie | Profession-specific currency replacing shared Acuity. No longer consumed during recrafting. |
| Two quality tiers | Silver and Gold only (Bronze gone). Reaching Gold quality is more achievable than in TWW. |

Part III — The Abundance Event
Weekly Repeatable · Herbalism KP · Cave Runs · Currency Spending
Abundance is a profession-themed repeatable World Event centered around Dundun, the Loa of Abundance. It launched with Patch 12.0.1 and takes place in timed 3-minute cave runs across all four Midnight zones. For a raiding Warlock on Herbalism + Inscription, it matters primarily as the source of 10 bonus Herbalism Knowledge Points and weekly Great Vault progress. It does not boost open-world herb yields, does not increase pigment drops, and has no Inscription-specific KP book — but the early KP injection alone makes it mandatory for the first two weeks.
How to Unlock
Head to Chel the Chip in Amani’Zar Village, Zul’Aman, after completing the main Midnight campaign. Complete the short questline starting with “The Abundant Lands.” You must also finish “The Abundant Life” or currency drops will not function. Once unlocked on one character, all Warband characters gain access (hotfixed March 4, 2026).
Cave Locations & Rotation
One of the four caves is the active “Abundant Harvest” at any time, rotating every 8 hours. It appears on the map as a purple triangle icon. Buy Dundun’s Abundant Travel Method (toy) from Chel the Chip early — it teleports you directly to the active cave, eliminating all travel time.
| Cave | Zone | Profession Theme |
|---|---|---|
| Watha’nan Crypts | Eversong Woods | Herbalism — bonus herb node interactions inside |
| Loaknit Den | Zul’Aman | Herbalism (alternate) / Wild |
| Floaret Grotto | Harandar | Varies by rotation |
| Abundant Voidburrow | Voidstorm | Varies by rotation |
The 3-Minute Cave Loop
Speak with Dundun at the cave entrance to start. You kill mobs and loot special Abundance nodes inside, but your carrying capacity is strictly limited — you must repeatedly deposit treasure at Dundun’s altars throughout the cave. Each deposit grants Dundun’s Blessing of Abundance, which increases your movement speed, carrying capacity, and pickup radius. Early deposits snowball into faster later runs. Any treasure left in your inventory when the timer expires is lost entirely.
Entry Tokens & Weekly Cap
-
Free Runs
No cost, minimal rewards. Useful for getting familiar with a cave layout but skippable once you know the routine.
-
Empowered Runs
Cost 1 Shard of Dundun each. Award up to 900 Unalloyed Abundance per run. Weekly cap is 8 Shards per Warband, meaning a maximum of 7,200 Unalloyed Abundance per week. Community consensus: 900 currency is reliably achievable in groups — scoring tiers are 300/600/900 but groups consistently hit the cap.
Shards of Dundun drop passively from Herbalism gathering, Mining, Fishing, Patron Crafting Orders, and zone treasures. The fastest dedicated farming: respawning treasures in Zul’Aman (high Shard drop rate). Your normal herb gathering loop generates Shards automatically — no extra effort needed.
The Weekly Quest
“Abundant Offerings” requires 20,000 total points across multiple runs and rewards:
How It Connects to Your Herbalism KP
The connection is real but specific — Abundance does not affect open-world herb spawn rates or yields. The three actual touchpoints are:
-
KP Book
Echo of Abundance: Herbalism — costs 1,600 Unalloyed Abundance + 75 Artisan’s Herbalist’s Moxie. Grants 10 Herbalism Knowledge Points in a single purchase. This equals nearly half the total value of all 8 Herbalism world treasures combined. Buy immediately in Week 1
-
Herb Nodes
During the Abundance of Herbalism cave rotation (Zul’Aman area), Herbalists can interact with unique herb nodes inside for bonus yield. Collecting all profession boons inside triggers Boon of Prosperity (doubles harvest for 30 seconds). Worth doing if the rotation aligns — but community consensus is that mob-pulling near altars outperforms node-focused gathering even during matching rotations.
-
Reagent Bag
Pouch of Sprouted Clippings — costs 1,200 Unalloyed Abundance. Herbalism-locked reagent bag that can proc rare and epic herbs. Lower priority than the KP book but decent second purchase.
Inscription & Abundance — The Honest Answer
Currency Spending Priority

- Week 1 only: Buy Echo of Abundance: Herbalism immediately upon reaching 1,600 currency (requires ~2 runs)
