WoW Midnight — Fishing Guide
Fishing in Midnight is more involved than previous expansions — 20 fish types, zone-specific pools, craftable lures, and deep cross-profession integration with Cooking and Alchemy. This guide covers everything from trainers to treasure chests.
Overview
Fishing in Midnight is a proper profession — not a side activity. Twenty distinct fish types, zone-specific pool mechanics, craftable lures, Engineering-crafted rods, and meaningful cross-profession integration with Cooking and Alchemy make it worth investing in from day one.
The single most important rule: always fish pools, never open water. Open-water fishing yields mostly low-level grey vendor trash. Pools are where the valuable fish, treasures, and lures come from. Every tip in this guide assumes you're casting into a pool.
Available at level 78 from any of the seven trainers across Midnight zones.
Trainers
Seven trainers across the expansion — learn from whichever is convenient for your current zone.
| Trainer | Zone | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Drathen | Silvermoon City | /way #2393 44.7, 60.2 |
| Melandra | Eversong Woods | /way #2395 48.6, 76.0 |
| Old Koko | Zul'Aman | /way #2437 48.6, 25.8 |
| Hav'kalo | Zul'Aman | /way #2437 38.2, 21.4 |
| Zel'kara the Spear | Zul'Aman | /way #2437 46.2, 70.4 |
| Rinnoa | Voidstorm | /way #2405 51.0, 68.6 |
Mowaia in Harandar (/way #2413 52.2, 54.0) sells fishing supplies but does not teach recipes — visit her to restock lure materials, not to level.
Tools & Gear
Fishing Rods
Rods are crafted by Engineers and come in three tiers. Upgrade as soon as you can get access.
| Rod | Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Farstrider Hobbyist Rod | Blue | Entry-level; craft or buy early |
| Sin'dorei Angler's Rod | Epic | Significant stat jump — primary target |
| Sin'dorei Reeler's Rod | Legendary | Requires a work order with a Fused Vitality BoP reagent; long-term goal |
Fishing Lines
Lines are Warband-bound and double your treasure yield while equipped — a major quality-of-life upgrade worth prioritising early.
| Line | Materials |
|---|---|
| Angler's Bloomline | 5× Weak Bloomline |
| Angler's Glimmerline | 20× Weak Glimmerline |
| Midnight Angler's Grand Line | Combines both lines |
Weak Bloomline and Glimmerline pieces drop from Patient Treasure Chests while fishing. Equip whichever line you have and upgrade as materials accumulate.
Leveling: Skill 1–300+
Fishing skill in Midnight scales higher than 100 — zones have recommended skill brackets. Always fish pools.
| Zone | Minimum Skill | Recommended Skill |
|---|---|---|
| Eversong Woods | 1 | 1 |
| Zul'Aman | 75 | 100 |
| Harandar | 100 | 225 |
| Voidstorm | 225 | 300 |
Start in Eversong Woods and work your way through the zones as your skill climbs. The shorelines in Eversong and Zul'Aman are safe and pool-dense. Harandar has inland fishing only with hostile NPCs in the area, so be aware of your surroundings. Voidstorm has no open water — fish the Viscous Void pools for easier access to Voidstorm-specific catches, since the rare Oceanic Vortex pools are difficult to locate.
Harandar exclusives: Bloomtail Minnow and Tender Lumifin are only catchable in Harandar. If you need either for cooking or lure crafting, this is the only zone.
Fish Types
Twenty catchable fish across Midnight zones, organised by rarity. Most fish serve one of three purposes: cooking ingredients, lure crafting, or special on-use effects.

Special Fish Mechanics
Several fish do something unusual when caught. Know these before you encounter them.
Root Crab — When caught, spawns a critter nearby. Capturing the critter rewards bonus fish. Worth chasing if you see it.
Blood Hunter — Catching one summons a Blood Hunter Spirit for additional loot. Bring the Amani Angler's Ward lure if you want to suppress the spirit spawns — useful when you just want to fish in peace.
Bloomtail Minnow — Filleting yields Bloom Baubles. Collect 10 Bloom Baubles and convert them to an Aquarius Bloom to transform nearby fishing pools. Strong synergy if you're farming specific pool types.
Shimmersiren — Clickable after catching. "Gut" it for a chance at vendor trash or rare items. Always click it.
Warping Wise — Catching one teleports you to one of 8 known locations in Midnight zones. Requires level 90. Don't panic — it's not hostile, just disorienting. Keep TomTom running so you can orient quickly.
Lures
Lures are crafted from common fish and provide 30-minute buffs that improve specific catch rates. Craft them in batches and keep a stock while farming target fish.
| Lure | Materials | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Hunter Lure | 5× Gore Guppy | Improves Blood Hunter catch rate |
| Lucky Loa Lure | 5× Sin'dorei Swarmer | Improves Lucky Loa catch rate |
| Ominous Octopus Lure | 5× Shimmersiren | Improves Ominous Octopus catch rate |
| Sunwell Fish Lure | 5× Sin'dorei Swarmer | Improves Sunwell Fish catch rate |
| Amani Angler's Ward | — | Suppresses Blood Hunter Spirit spawns |
Lure recipes drop from Careless Cargo treasure pools and Patient Treasure Chests. Fish regularly and you'll accumulate them naturally.

- Surface Ripple — General mixed pool

- Viscous Void — Voidstorm fish accessible across zones
Cross-Profession Integration
Cooking
The primary consumer of your catch. All fish convert to fillets via Thalassian Filet, which feeds into 10+ cooking recipes. Bloomtail Minnow fillets also yield bonus Bloom Baubles. If you're running Cooking alongside Fishing — which you should be — most of what you catch has a direct recipe destination.
Alchemy
Several fish serve as Alchemy reagents. Check your Alchemy recipe list for specific requirements — the overlap is meaningful enough to keep surplus rare fish rather than vendoring them.
School of Gems
A unique mechanic: the School of Gems interaction converts fish into gems. Worth investigating once you have surplus stock of common fish with no other use.
World Treasures
Bait and Tackle Cave in Zul'Aman (/way #2437 21.1, 67.0) contains the Abyss Angler's Fish Log — grab this early, it's a knowledge point item.
Patient Treasure Chests spawn randomly while you fish, regardless of zone. Contents include:
- An Angler's Deep Dive (+10 skill)
- Bloomline and Glimmerline pieces (fishing line components)
- Motes and cosmetics
- Lure recipes
- Bubbly Snapling pet
These chests are the primary source of fishing line components and lure recipes — consistent fishing sessions will stock you naturally over time.
Tips
- Always pool fish. Open water is vendor trash. Always.
- Equip your fishing line as soon as you have one. Double treasures from day one is significant over the course of an expansion.
- Stock lures before farming rare fish. A targeted 30-minute lure session beats hours of unfocused open fishing.
- Harandar hostiles. Inland fishing in Harandar has aggressive NPCs nearby — clear the area or find a safe shoreline spot before casting.
- Voidstorm navigation. Oceanic Vortex pools are rare and purple-bubbled. Use the Viscous Void pools for easier access until you've learned the Vortex spawn locations.
- Warping Wise at level 89 or below. Catching one below level 90 does nothing. The teleport requires 90.
