WoW Midnight — Arms Warrior Guide

A complete Arms Warrior DPS guide for WoW Midnight: stat priority, Slayer and Colossus builds, Rage management, opener and priority lists for ST and AoE, Colossus Smash alignment, execute phase, enchants, gems, consumables, and Season 1 BiS gear.

Overview

Arms Warrior is a two-handed melee DPS spec built around bleeds, proc-based gameplay, and powerful Execute finishers. The core loop is managing Rage generation through auto-attacks and abilities, spending it efficiently to avoid overcapping while keeping Colossus Smash aligned with burst cooldowns. The spec transitions into a distinct Execute phase below 20% (or 35% with talents), where Execute becomes the dominant ability. Arms rewards clean cooldown alignment and punishes downtime hard.

Unique utility: Rallying Cry (group-wide HP increase), Spell Reflection, Disrupting Shout (AoE interrupt), Battle Shout (Attack Power buff), Commanding Shout.

Hero Talent Paths

Path Identity Notes
Slayer Amplifies Execute and Bladestorm frequency and damage; interrupt during Bladestorm Recommended for raid single-target
Colossus Adds Demolish (channelled high-damage nuke); enhances Cleave and bleed damage Recommended for Mythic+ and multi-target

Strengths

  • Strong Execute damage and two-target cleave
  • Bursty multi-target cooldowns
  • Solid personal defenses and raid-wide defensive cooldown (Rallying Cry)
  • Strong burst mobility (Charge, Heroic Leap)

Weaknesses

  • Highly specialised — Slayer favours ST, Colossus favours AoE; rarely optimal at both simultaneously
  • Heavily punished by combat downtime (no ranged options, no passive Rage generation)
  • Dependent on Skyfury (Shaman buff) for optimal resource efficiency
  • No damage immunity or self-healing

Stat Priority

Priority Stat Notes
1 Strength Always follow item level
2 Critical Strike Most important secondary — increases Rage generation from auto-attacks and reduces rotation downtime
3 Haste Compresses the rotation by reducing GCD and cooldowns on Mortal Strike, Skullsplitter, Cleave
4 Mastery Increases Warrior ability damage; does not affect trinkets, potions, or enchants
5 Versatility Flat damage/reduction; affects all sources including trinkets and enchants

Diminishing Returns Thresholds

Stat DR Threshold
Critical Strike 1,380 rating
Haste 1,320 rating
Mastery 1,380 rating
Versatility 1,620 rating

Talent Builds

Slayer is recommended for raid single-target. Colossus is recommended for Mythic+ and sustained multi-target scenarios.

Slayer — Raid (Single Target)

Focuses on Imminent Demise for Execute procs and Bladestorm as a secondary cooldown. Nearly GCD-locked rotation with strong burst windows. Easy talent swaps: Fast Footwork, Interpose, Field Dressing. Slayer excels at quickly deleting short-lived add groups.

Colossus — Mythic+

Demolish is the centrepiece — a channelled nuke requiring 5+ Colossal Might stacks. Buffs Cleave and bleed damage for sustained multi-target. Dominates high-target environments. Slower rotation feel vs Slayer.

Slayer — Mythic+ (Alternative)

Reap the Storm triggers for multitarget via Execute. Simpler "burst and move" playstyle. Stronger on bosses than Colossus; weaker on sustained add waves.

Rotation & Cooldowns

Core Abilities Reference

Ability Role Notes
Mortal Strike Primary melee strike High priority; generates Executioner's Precision stacks
Overpower Filler + Rage gen Use on cooldown; elevated priority during proc windows
Colossus Smash Primary burst window Opens a window of increased damage to target; align with Avatar
Avatar Secondary burst cooldown 20% damage increase; align with Colossus Smash
Bladestorm (Slayer) Secondary cooldown Deals damage + triggers Violent Euphoria (15% Haste for 8s) and Unhinged (auto-Mortal Strikes)
Demolish (Colossus) Primary nuke Requires 5+ Colossal Might stacks; use inside Colossus Smash window
Execute Execute finisher Usable below 20% health (or 35% with talents); priority shifts dramatically in this phase
Rend Bleed DoT Maintain on target
Slam Filler Use when all other abilities are on cooldown
Cleave AoE melee Use at 2+ targets; below 35% health on primary target
Heroic Strike Rage dump Use when approaching Rage cap

Rage rules: Auto-attacks are the primary Rage source — stay on target. Never cap Rage. Heroic Strike is the overflow dump. Downtime between pulls wastes Rage; spend before leaving combat.

Colossus Smash Primary cooldown — use liberally. Opens a debuff window on the target for increased damage. Align Avatar with every Colossus Smash. Anger Management reduces the cooldown; Master of Warfare can cause Avatar misalignment — monitor if running that talent.
Avatar 20% damage increase. Pair with every Colossus Smash cast.
Bladestorm (Slayer) Triggers Violent Euphoria (15% Haste for 8s) after completion and Unhinged (automatic Mortal Strikes every 2 hits during channel). Never interrupt it early.
Demolish (Colossus) High-damage nuke requiring 5 Colossal Might stacks. Cast exclusively inside Colossus Smash windows for maximum damage amplification.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Avatar always with Colossus Smash — these two cooldowns should never be separated. Colossus Smash opens the burst window; Avatar amplifies everything inside it. Using Avatar outside a Colossus Smash window is a meaningful damage loss.
  • Never interrupt Bladestorm — it triggers Violent Euphoria (15% Haste) and Unhinged (auto-Mortal Strikes) on completion. Cancelling it early forfeits both. Position before channelling.
  • Demolish requires 5 Colossal Might stacks — Colossus players: casting Demolish before reaching 5 stacks is a significant damage loss. Build stacks first, then Demolish inside the Colossus Smash window.
  • Auto-attacks are your Rage engine — Arms generates most of its Rage from melee auto-attacks. Standing still and maintaining contact with the target is more important than it looks. Every second of disengagement is Rage and Rage-based abilities lost.
  • Execute phase changes everything — below 20% health, Execute becomes the dominant ability and the rotation restructures around it. Don't continue the normal priority list in execute range; pivot immediately.
  • Downtime between pulls wastes Rage — Rage decays out of combat. Spend it before leaving combat whenever you have more than a few seconds before the next pull.
