WoW Midnight — Mining & Jewelcrafting Raider’s Guide
A raider’s guide to Mining and Jewelcrafting in WoW Midnight: farming all three ore types and Dazzling Thorium, prospecting for gems, leveling both professions efficiently, spending Knowledge Points correctly, and cutting your own gems and crafting rings and amulets before your first raid lockout.
Overview
Mining and Jewelcrafting form the gem supply loop: Mining provides the ore, Jewelcrafting prospects it into uncut gems, and cuts those gems into stat bonuses every raider slots into their gear. Every character in the game needs gems — rings, amulets, and socket bonuses are universal. Jewelcrafters also supply crafted rings and amulets, provide profession tools to other crafters, and produce reagents that feed Alchemy and other professions. Mining and Jewelcrafting together eliminate the Auction House entirely for your own gem needs while generating consistent income from every other player who needs cuts.
This guide is written for a raider starting from zero in Midnight. Midnight uses only two quality tiers — Silver and Gold (Bronze is gone). Gold quality is the target for gems and jewelry.
Part I — Mining
Two trainers teach Midnight Mining.
| Trainer | Zone | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Belil | Silvermoon City | /way #2393 42.6, 52.8 |
| Saren | Silvermoon City | Horde-accessible alternative |
What Changed in Midnight
- Only two material quality tiers: Silver and Gold (Bronze removed)
- Refining removed from specializations — ore feeds crafting and prospecting directly
- New currency: Artisan Miner's Moxie — spend on Knowledge Point items from the profession vendor
- 40 KP in Meticulous Mining unlocks mounted mining — invest here immediately
Ores
| Ore | Node Types | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| Refulgent Copper Ore | Standard and seam nodes | Jewelcrafting early recipes; prospecting for common gems |
| Brilliant Silver Ore | Standard and seam nodes | Mid-tier gem prospects; rings and amulets |
| Umbral Tin Ore | Standard and seam nodes | High-end gem prospects; meta gem components |
| Dazzling Thorium | Rare side gather from all node types | High-value reagent used in Jewelcrafting and across professions |
Prospecting converts raw ore into uncut gems — Peridot, Lapis, Amethyst, and Garnet — which Jewelcrafting then cuts. Your ore farming is directly tied to your gem supply. The higher the ore volume, the more gems you prospect, the more cuts you sell.
Dazzling Thorium is also a cross-profession ingredient. Don't prospect it away automatically — check its Auction House value and your crafting needs before consuming it.
Themed Node Types
| Node Type | Zone | Interaction | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lightfused | Eversong Woods | Catch falling motes for bonus resources | Motes of Light |
| Voidbound | Scattered zones | Void circles slow movement; hazardous area | Motes of Pure Void |
| Wild | Zul'Aman | Summons Rumbling Orelings to defeat | Motes of Wild Magic |
| Primal | Harandar | Channels health; rooting effect during harvest | Motes of Primal Energy |
| Rich | All zones | Larger yields; standard interaction | Bonus ore |
Leveling
Mine every node while questing. Mining levels naturally from volume.
- Mine all three ore types for first-mine KP bonuses
- Prioritise Seam nodes for yield
- Invest 40 KP in Meticulous Mining for mounted mining immediately
Specialization Trees
| Tree | Focus | Key Unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Meticulous Mining | Vigor + efficiency | Mounted mining at 40 KP — highest priority |
| Plentiful Ores | Yield bonuses | More ore per node; improved Dazzling Thorium |
| Over-LODED | Themed node mastery | Maximum Mote income from special nodes |
Spend order:
- Meticulous Mining to 40 — mounted mining first, always.
- Plentiful Ores — more ore per node = more prospecting material = more gem supply. This scales Jewelcrafting output directly.
- Over-LODED — invest once base yield is stable; Mote farming adds a cross-profession income stream.
Knowledge Points
| Source | KP Gained |
|---|---|
| First mine of each ore/theme combination | +1 each |
| Weekly quests from Belil | +3 |
| World treasures | +1–3 |
| Eight open-world Mining treasures | +3 each |
| Knowledge books | +10 |
Tools & Profession Gear
| Tool | Crafter |
|---|---|
| Thalassian Pickaxe | Blacksmithing |
| Sun-Blessed Pickaxe | Blacksmithing |
| Farstrider Rock Satchel | Engineering |
| Junker's Big Ol' Bag | Engineering |
| Farstrider Hardhat | Engineering |
| Sin'dorei Gilded Hardhat | Engineering |
You will need a Blacksmith or Engineer for your Mining tools. Find a crafter or check the Auction House for the Thalassian Pickaxe early.
Part II — Jewelcrafting
Three trainers teach Midnight Jewelcrafting.
| Trainer | Zone | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Amin | Silvermoon City Hub | /way 48.2, 55.1 |
| Aleinia | Silvermoon City | /way 73.8, 71.2 |
| Kalinda | Silvermoon City — Indoors | /way 48.9, 54.2 |
What Jewelcrafting Produces
| Category | Products | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cut Gems | Peridot, Lapis, Amethyst, Garnet cuts; meta gems | Slotted into gear by every player; universal demand |
| Jewelry | Rings and amulets | Endgame crafted accessories with optional reagent slots |
| Profession Reagents | Materials for Alchemy and other professions | Prospecting byproducts and crafted reagents |
| Profession Tools | Clampers (Jewelcrafting self-use); Loupes; Enchanting Crystals | Tools for Enchanters and Jewelcrafters |
| Housing Décor | Bejeweled Sin'dorei Lyre, Brilliant Phoenix Harp, Replica Haranir Mural, Resplendent Highborne Statue, Shining Hourglass, Tenebrous Armillary | Secondary gold source |
Gems
Midnight gems come in four colors. Each color has multiple stat cuts available.
| Gem | Color | Available Cuts |
|---|---|---|
| Peridot | Green | Deadly (Crit+Mastery), Masterful (Haste+Mastery), Versatile (Vers+Mastery), Quick (Haste) |
| Lapis | Blue | Deadly (Crit+Mastery), Masterful (Haste+Mastery), Quick (Haste), Lustrous (Mana) |
| Amethyst | Purple | Deadly, Quick, Versatile, Austere cuts |
| Garnet | Red | Glorious, Masterful, Quick, Versatile cuts |
Meta Gems: Powerful Eversong Diamond and Telluric Eversong Diamond are dungeon drops — they are not learned Jewelcrafting recipes. You cannot craft them; you find them in Midnight dungeons and cut them via Jewelcrafting if you have the recipe.
Gem demand varies by spec. The most universally consumed cuts will be Quick (Haste) and Deadly (Crit+Mastery) variants — these feed the highest-population specs. Study which stats are strongest for the top DPS and healer specs for the most profitable cuts.
Specialization Trees
Jewelcrafting has four specialization trees requiring 774 total KP to fully max.
| Tree | KP Cost | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Thoughtful Throughput | 120 | Secondary skills: Ingenuity, Crafting Speed |
| Glamorous Gems | 310 | Individual gem cut specializations — the primary tree for gem crafters |
| Alluring Accessories | 150 | Rings, amulets, and profession equipment crafting |
| Proficient Processor | 194 | Reagent creation and prospecting efficiency |
Spend order for gem supply focus:
- Glamorous Gems — this is the largest tree and unlocks your gem cuts. Gold-quality gem output is the core income generator for Jewelcrafting. Invest here first and spec into the cuts with the highest population demand on your server.
- Proficient Processor — prospecting efficiency improvements directly increase your gem yield from ore. More gems per prospect means more cuts sold per mining session.
- Alluring Accessories — rings and amulets fill neck and finger slots for every class. With optional reagent slots and Gold quality, crafted jewelry is consistently sellable throughout the tier.
- Thoughtful Throughput — fill this last for secondary stat bonuses and ongoing crafting speed improvements.
Spend order for ring/amulet service focus:
Swap steps 1 and 3 — invest in Alluring Accessories before Glamorous Gems if your server has higher demand for jewelry than cut gems early in the tier.
Leveling
| Skill Range | Method |
|---|---|
| 1–67 | Trainer recipes using prospected gems and ore |
| 67–100 | Specialty recipes from specialization trees, world drops, or vendors |
Prospecting is efficient for leveling — it converts ore into gems and skills up Jewelcrafting simultaneously. Mine and prospect in parallel from day one.
Tools & Profession Gear
Jewelcrafting uses tools from Engineering and Leatherworking, and also crafts some of its own:
| Tool | Source |
|---|---|
| Farstrider Clampers | Engineering |
| Sin'dorei Clampers | Engineering |
| Giga-Gem Grippers | Engineering |
| Apprentice Jeweler's Apron | Leatherworking |
| Thalassian Gemshaper's Grand Cover | Leatherworking |
| Sin'dorei Jeweler's Loupes | Jewelcrafting (self-crafted) |
| Mage-Eye Precision Loupes | Jewelcrafting (self-crafted) |
Jewelcrafting crafts its own Loupes — apply these for profession stat bonuses. You'll need Engineering for your Clampers and Leatherworking for your apron; find crafters or check the Auction House early.
Tool enchants: Ingenuity for quality-focused crafting; Multicraft or Resourcefulness for volume gem production.
How They Work Together
- Prospecting is the bridge — ore goes in, uncut gems come out. Every ore farming session generates prospecting material, and every prospect generates potential Gold-quality gem cuts. The loop is direct and closed.
- Plentiful Ores investment multiplies Jewelcrafting output — more ore per node = more prospecting inputs = more gems per session = more cuts sold. Mining's Plentiful Ores tree is your Jewelcrafting throughput lever.
- Dazzling Thorium is cross-profession value — it's used in Jewelcrafting and other professions. Don't automatically prospect every Dazzling Thorium you mine. Check whether it's more valuable as a direct sale, a Jewelcrafting ingredient, or a reagent for another profession before committing it.
- Universal demand makes this combination recession-proof — gem demand doesn't peak and crash with raid tiers the way armor demand does. Every new character needs gems. Every ilvl upgrade means new sockets. Gem sales are consistent throughout the expansion lifecycle in a way that gear sales are not.
- Crafted rings and amulets complement gem cuts — a player who buys your ring also needs you to cut the gems that go in it. Being able to service both requests from a single Jewelcrafting character is a meaningful service advantage.
Weekly Checklist
Mining:
- Complete the Mining weekly quest (+3 KP)

- Check crafting order board for ring and amulet requests
Two-Week Plan
Week 1 — Foundation
Days 1–3: Level both professions while questing. Mine every node and begin prospecting Refulgent Copper immediately — this generates both Jewlecrafting skill and uncut gems. Invest first KP into Meticulous Mining (mounted node) and Glamorous Gems (unlock your first gem cuts).
Days 4–7: Push to skill 67 in Jewelcrafting. Complete both weekly quests. Prospect your ore stockpile and identify which gem cuts are highest demand on your realm. Begin listing Gold-quality cuts on the Auction House.
Week 2 — Raid Ready
Days 8–10: Reach skill 100 in both professions. With Glamorous Gems invested, you have multiple cut options available at Gold quality. Your own gem slots are covered at zero cost.
Days 11–14: Invest KP into Proficient Processor for prospecting efficiency. Begin investing in Alluring Accessories for ring and amulet crafting. With consistent ore supply and developed Glamorous Gems, you're a fully operational gem service and your own gems cost only farming time.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Prospect as you mine, not in batches — prospecting generates Jewelcrafting skill. Running your ore through prospecting continuously keeps both professions leveling in parallel. Don't hoard ore for a single mass-prospect session.
- Glamorous Gems is 310 KP — plan accordingly — it is the largest individual spec tree in Jewelcrafting. Full investment takes time. Prioritise cuts for the two or three highest-demand stats on your server first, then expand. You don't need every cut immediately.
- Meta gems are dungeon drops, not crafted — Powerful Eversong Diamond and Telluric Eversong Diamond come from Midnight dungeons. If someone asks you to cut one, you need the recipe to drop first. Don't promise this service until you have the recipe.
- Don't neglect Proficient Processor — prospecting efficiency is a direct multiplier on your gem output. Every additional gem per prospect is a free cut to sell. Invest here earlier than you might expect.
- Gem demand outlasts gear demand — new tiers of crafted armor come and go, but gem demand is evergreen. Every character gearing up needs cuts. This combination generates income throughout the full expansion cycle, not just the first month of a raid tier.
- Crafted rings and amulets fill the same slots every week — finger slots and the neck slot are replaced frequently as item levels improve. With Alluring Accessories invested and optional reagent slots available, your crafted jewelry remains competitive through several upgrade cycles.
