WoW Midnight — Preservation Evoker Guide

A complete Preservation Evoker healer guide for WoW Midnight: stat priority, Chronowarden and Flameshaper builds, the Echo system, empowered spells, Rewind and Stasis cooldowns, healing priority, enchants, gems, consumables, and Season 1 BiS gear.

Overview

Preservation Evoker is a mid-range healer (30-yard range) that manages Mana and Essence simultaneously. The spec combines direct healing spells with empowered casts — abilities that charge up over multiple ranks to become stronger — and a unique Echo buff system where healing is "pre-loaded" onto allies before a major damage event, then consumed in a single cast. Preservation is characterised by slow, deliberate setup followed by high-impact healing bursts, with strong defensives, real damage output, and excellent mobility.

Unique restrictions: 30-yard maximum healing range. AoE healing requires grouped targets — spread formations significantly reduce effectiveness.

Unique utility: Blessing of the Bronze (Haste raid buff), Rescue (grip ally to safety), Time Dilation, Cauterizing Flame (dispel), Zephyr (AoE damage reduction), Source of Magic (mana restoration for another healer), Rewind (one of the strongest emergency cooldowns in the game).

Hero Talent Paths

Path Identity Notes
Chronowarden Buffs Verdant Embrace and Temporal Anomaly; Haste/cooldown reduction focus Recommended for all content — superior overall performance and flexibility
Flameshaper Dream Breath gains an extra charge; Lifecinders shares your defensives with allies Higher burst potential; easier mana management; recommended for groups needing defensive externals

Strengths

  • Powerful emergency cooldowns (Rewind, Stasis)
  • Frequent, high-impact empowered spells
  • Strong self-healing and personal defensives
  • Real damage output as a healer spec
  • Multiple mobility tools (Hover, Glide, Wing Buffet)

Weaknesses

  • Hard 30-yard range cap — cannot stand at the back of a raid
  • AoE healing requires players to be grouped — ineffective with spread formations

Stat Priority

Priority Stat Notes
1 Intellect Always follow item level
2 Mastery Strongest secondary — heals harder when your health exceeds the target's; full benefit when at equal or higher HP %
3 Haste Reduces cast times and ability cooldowns (Reversion, Temporal Anomaly); increases HoT ticks
4 Critical Strike Doubles healing; extends certain HoT durations; does not affect absorbs or health-scaling spells (Emerald Communion)
5 Versatility Flat healing/damage increase and damage reduction; lowest priority

Both Chronowarden and Flameshaper share identical stat priorities.

Diminishing Returns Thresholds

Stat DR Threshold
Critical Strike 1,380 rating
Haste 1,320 rating
Mastery 1,380 rating
Versatility 1,620 rating

Mastery's pass/fail mechanic means positioning near injured targets maximises its value. Keep yourself healthy to maintain the stat's effectiveness.

Talent Builds

Chronowarden is recommended for all content. Flameshaper is a strong alternative for groups prioritising defensive externals (Lifecinders shares Obsidian Scales with allies) or for lower-difficulty content where easier mana management and the extra Dream Breath charge simplify healing.

Chronowarden — Raid

Heavy focus on the Nozdormu Adept talent for reduced Temporal Anomaly cooldown (~25% more frequent Echo setups). Tip the Scales with Temporal Burst creates a pseudo-cooldown. Flexible nodes: Stasis vs. Dream Flight depending on whether raid fights have stacked or spread AoE phases.

Chronowarden — Mythic+

Prioritises damage output alongside healing. Spark of Insight/Titan's Gift combo enhances Echo multipliers. Twin Echoes synergises strongly with the tier set bonus.

Flameshaper — Raid

Easier mana management; two Dream Breath charges provide frequent burst healing. Lifecinders talent shares Obsidian Scales defensive cooldown with an ally — strong for tanks in dangerous phases.

Flameshaper — M+ (Low-Medium Difficulty)

Two Obsidian Scales and Time Dilation charges provide excellent defensive coverage. Easier to execute than Chronowarden at lower key levels.

Rotation & Cooldowns

Core Abilities Reference

Ability Role Notes
Temporal Anomaly Primary Echo setter Keep on cooldown; pre-casts before damage events for Echo setup
Echo Targeted Echo buff Places a buff on an ally — your next heal consumes all Echo buffs simultaneously, duplicating the heal
Verdant Embrace Smart single-target High priority within 15-second windows; generates Essence Burst
Dream Breath Empowered AoE HoT Strong when placed on multiple stacked targets
Emerald Blossom Essence Burst spender Instant AoE heal; use on Essence Burst procs to avoid overcapping
Reversion HoT + Essence Burst gen Generates Essence Burst (15% chance); keep on tanks
Living Flame Filler + Essence Burst gen Generates Essence Burst (20% chance); minor damage on boss for proc farming
Rewind Emergency cooldown Heals based on 33% of total damage taken by the raid in the prior 5 seconds
Stasis Cooldown storage Stores 3 beneficial spells; release them instantly within 30 seconds
Dream Flight AoE healing movement 1.5-min CD; large AoE heal on flight path
Tip the Scales Off-GCD modifier Makes next empowered spell instant at max rank
Hover Mobility Cast-while-moving; use for any forced movement

The Echo system: Place Echo buffs on allies via Temporal Anomaly or the Echo spell before a major damage event. When you then cast a single healing spell, it duplicates to every Echo-buffed ally simultaneously. Echo-based builds pre-load 50–75% of the raid before big hits, then consume with a high-value spell.

Essence Burst: Generated from Living Flame (20%) and Reversion (15%). Maximum 2 charges. Makes next spell free. Spend on Emerald Blossom to prevent waste.

Pre-Combat

  1. Cast Blessing of the Bronze (raid-wide Haste buff — always before pull)
  2. Activate Source of Magic on the highest-HPS healer (mana restoration)
  3. Pre-cast Temporal Anomaly 2–3 seconds before pull (gets Echo buffs active immediately)

Healing Priority — Raid (Chronowarden)

  1. Consume all Stasis-stored spells (if Stasis was triggered)
  2. Temporal Anomaly (on cooldown)
  3. Dream Breath (frequently, after consuming Echo buffs)
  4. Verdant Embrace (within a 15-second window)
  5. Emerald Blossom (on Essence Burst proc — avoid capping)
  6. Echo (with available Essence — avoid wasting Essence Burst)
  7. Consume Echo buffs with Merithra's Blessing (common) or Verdant Embrace (rare)
  8. Living Flame on boss (Essence Burst farming + minor damage)

Healing Priority — Mythic+

Same structure as raid. Drop Healing Rain (not worth using in small groups). Prioritise Ancestral Vigor over Healing Rain as the talent choice.

Cooldown Reference

Cooldown Notes
Rewind 3-min CD. Heals based on 33% of total damage taken by all raid members in the prior 5 seconds. This makes it strongest when used immediately after a large raid-wide burst — not preemptively.
Stasis 2-min CD. Stores 3 beneficial spells as you cast them, then releases all 3 simultaneously within 30 seconds. Pre-load with Dream Breath + Temporal Anomaly + Verdant Embrace, then detonate on a known heavy damage window.
Dream Flight 1.5-min CD. Large AoE heal distributed along your flight path. Best used on stacked groups.
Obsidian Scales (Flameshaper: Lifecinders) Strong personal physical damage reduction. Flameshaper's Lifecinders talent shares this with an ally — use on tanks during high-physical-damage phases.
Temporal Anomaly Core Echo-setter. Keep on cooldown. Pre-cast 2–3 seconds before any known damage event to pre-load Echo buffs.

Trinket tiers — S: Vaelgor's Final Stare, Locus-Walker's Ribbon, Gaze of the Alnseer, Refueling Orb | A: Emerald Coach's Whistle, Heart of Wind, Emberwing Feather, Glorious Crusader's Keepsake

Note: Stat-stick trinkets significantly outperform direct-healing trinkets — they scale with your Intellect and Mastery baseline rather than providing fixed values.

Crafted priority: Magister's Valediction with Darkmoon Sigil → World Tender's Barkclasp + World Tender's Rootslippers (Root Warden's Regalia dual-slot embellishment).

Upgrade priority: Weapon first → strong trinkets → high-budget slots (chest, legs, helm) for maximum Intellect per crest.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Pre-cast Temporal Anomaly before every damage event — the Echo system's power depends on having Echo buffs active on allies when damage lands. Casting Temporal Anomaly reactively (after the damage) means you're healing without the duplication. Identify damage timers in advance and pre-load.
  • Rewind is strongest immediately after a burst — it scales off damage taken in the prior 5 seconds. Casting it preemptively before damage lands means it heals based on whatever was happening before, not the spike you're responding to. Let the spike land, then Rewind.
  • Blessing of the Bronze before every pull — it's easy to forget. It's a meaningful Haste buff for the whole group. Make it a pre-pull habit alongside Source of Magic.
  • 30 yards is a real range constraint — you cannot heal the backline of a large raid from melee range, and you cannot stand at the back and reach tanks in melee range. Find the middle ground for every encounter and adjust.
  • Hover during empowered casts — empowered spells require you to stand still while charging. Use Hover before a forced movement phase so you have the cast-while-moving buff active when you need to charge.
  • Flameshaper: Lifecinders on tanks — if you're playing Flameshaper, actively coordinate the shared Obsidian Scales with your tanks. They often don't know it's available; tell them.
